The Carey School, founded in 1928, is an accredited, independent co-educational private day school located in San Mateo, CA. The school enrolls approximately 224 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through the 5th grade. The student-teacher ratio is approximately 7:1. The core curriculum is taught in the homeroom, with the specialist teachers providing additional integrated curriculum in Art, Music, Science, Technology, Physical Education, Library Studies, French and Spanish.

Seventy percent of the school community lives within 10 miles of the school in the cities of San Mateo, Belmont, Burlingame, Foster City, Redwood City, Redwood Shores and San Carlos, with the additional 30% more geographically dispersed as far away as Half Moon Bay and Pacifica, Daly City, San Bruno, Millbrae, Menlo Park, and Woodside.

The mission of The Carey School is to inspire in our students a life-long love of learning and the pursuit of excellence within a diverse community that nurtures a deep sense of kindness, respect for others and personal responsibility.

Summer's Here and the Time is Right for READING!

Reading is a wonderful way to relax over summer break AND support reading skills. The lists are guides only. Many of the books listed for a particular grade are appropriate for a wide range of grade levels (some can be read independently, and some are great for read-alouds). Your public library is a wonderful place to explore and is another resource for recommended titles. You can also enroll your child in your public library's summer reading program.

The 2008 Summer Reading Challenge is for the whole school to collectively read for 360,000 minutes! The reward will be a refreshing Jamba Juice Party! Summer Reading Challenge forms can be downloaded below and should be turned into the library by September 5th.

Most importantly - have fun!
