Extended Care Staff

Before School

Kathy Angell has been a teacher at The Carey School since 1989.  She brings boundless enthusiasm and creativity to her Kindergarten classroom and loves working with the Kindergarten team.  Kathy continues to enjoy her time at The Carey School as a Kindergarten Assistant and a Before School Care Provider. Kathy shares her extensive knowledge and love of cooking with the school community.  Her After School Adventures cooking class continues to be a popular choice for all grade levels. In her free time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, golfing, swimming and tasting the diverse culinary cuisine that the Bay Area has to offer.




After-School

Carl Coyle was born and raised on the Peninsula. Carl graduated from neighboring Serra High School before attending CSU, Chico. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, a teacher credential pathway program, with a concentration in Elementary Mathematics Education. Carl lives with his wife, a photographer, in Redwood City. In his free time he enjoys accompanying her to photo shoots at various scenic locations on the Peninsula and beyond.
With him, Carl brings over five years of experience working with youth summer recreation programs, and three years experience as a Substitute Teacher in Hillsborough and Millbrae School Districts. Carl was drawn to The Carey School’s invigorating, independent school working and learning environment. He is eager to join his colleagues in the Carey community to develop a fuller, more integrated extended care program for students.



Rocio Perez, a member to Carey’s After School team, is looking forward to expanding her experience working with children. Rocio has worked in the restaurant business and volunteered at programs such as Boys & Girls Club and BAWSI (Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative). She recently graduated from Menlo College with her B.A. in Liberal Arts Psychology. In the future, Rocio would like to attend graduate school and receive her M.A. in Clinical Psychology to pursue a career as an art therapist for children.




Suzie Quince has been at The Carey School for over 10 years. She attended Carey School as a student from 1995 – 2000, and came back to work with the After School team in 2006. In addition to working at The Carey School, Suzie has continued her education at Canada College in Redwood City as she majors in Psychology. Suzie’s goals are to receive a degree in art and psychology and to pursue a career as an art therapist. She has experience working with kids in various settings. During the summer, Suzie has worked at Steve and Kate’s camp as a knitting instructor and has worked as a tutor at Score. Suzie loves working with children.




Steph Truong came to The Carey School after working as a counselor at Steve & Kate’s Camp. She is a continuous and accomplished student-athlete. Steph credits her involvement in athletics for the positive foundation in her attitude, mentality, and overall personality. Steph graduated with a BA in Psychology from Menlo College (Atherton, CA) in 2011. She has been actively building her experience working with diverse communities, and interacting with a wide range of ages and personalities through her work in Juvenile Hall and various Recreation Centers. Steph hopes to return to school to achieve a master’s degree in psychology with a focus on criminology.
