Admissions
The Carey School seeks inquisitive, enthusiastic and conscientious students
who will benefit from Carey's program and who will bring their own special
energies and personal contributions to the school community. The Carey
School admits students of any race, color, nationality, ethnic origin
and religious preference to all the rights, privileges and activities
generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The Carey
School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality,
ethnic origin, and religious preference in administration of its educational
policies, financial assistance program, athletics and other administered
programs.
Admission Procedure
Step 1. Request Admission Materials .
Families who are interested in The Carey School should submit a Request for Admission Information.
Step 2. Register for a School Tour.
After reviewing the school's printed
materials, parents interested in pursuing admission should Register for a School Tour. The tour offers parents the opportunity to speak with a member of the administrative staff and to visit the campus while classes are in session. All appointments are at 9:00 a.m. Please see the tour schedule on the Key Dates page.
Step 3. Submit Formal Application.
Parents wishing
to submit a formal application to the school may do so only after completing
a school tour. The next step is to complete and return an admission
application form, along with a non-refundable, non-transferable $140 fee,
to the admissions office.
Step 4. Schedule an Admission Screening (Pre-K and Kindergarten) or Admission Testing/Visit (Grades 1-5).
Pre-kindergarten screening sessions will take place on Saturday, January 24th and Saturday, January 31st. During these sessions, the children will interact in large group play, participate in small group skills stations and attend a story time. Parents are required to contact the Director of Admission at (650) 345-4410 to set up a specific session time. All applicants must be 4 years of age on or before September 1, 2009.
Kindergarten screening sessions will take place on Friday, February 6th and Monday, March 2nd. During these sessions, the children will interact in large group play, participate in small group skills sessions and attend a story time. Parents are required to contact the Director of Admission at (650) 345-4410 to set up a specific session time. All applicants must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2009.
Testing for 1st through 5th grade applicants will take place on Thursday, March 5th. These sessions will include the administration of standardized testing, as well as the completion of some teacher-assigned materials. Parents are required to contact the Director of Admission at (650) 345-4410 to confirm availability for this testing. The Director of Admission will contact parents to set up an appointment for a student visit.
Admission Event for Prospective Parent/Guardians
Prospective parent/guardian events are informal, informational evenings that provide the opportunity to learn more about The Carey School curriculum and to meet parents of students currently enrolled at Carey. Attendance at events is strongly encouraged but not required. These events are for adults only and we encourage all parents/guardians in each family to attend.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
