What is the Annual Fund and Why is it Important?

The Annual Fund is an essential component of Carey’s operating budget. It provides direct support of key budget areas such as:

• faculty salaries
• professional development

• financial aid

• technology needs

• campus upkeep

• educational program

Tuition only covers about 90% of Carey’s operating costs.

• There is a gap between what the school charges in tuition and what it costs to educate each child.
• This year, the gap is about $1000.

• The average ask per student is $1000 with donations ranging from $5-$15,000.00.

• Carey’s “per student” ask is well below that of other bay area independent schools. The Annual Fund helps close the gap between tuition income and operating expenses.
• Gifts to the Annual Fund help the school keep tuition at a reasonable level (compared to other Bay Area independent schools).
• The Annual Fund allows Carey to remain accessible to a diversified pool of qualified applicants.
