Committees

Throughout the year, the CSPA coordinates schoolwide functions that build community among parents, students, faculty and administrators.  It also works to raise funds for the school’s annual project, special enrichment programs and field trips and other school needs proposed and approved by the parent community at the end of the year through the funding proposal process.  These events and fundraisers are planned and executed by committee chairpersons and their teams of dedicated volunteers:


AUCTION – Julie Gregory, Amy Obana, Lexi Slavet
The Auction Committee manages the planning and execution of our annual Dinner and Auction which will be held in Spring 2011.  The event includes a preview party and online auction in the weeks leading up to auction night, cocktails, dinner, silent and live auctions and dancing and entertainment.  It is the school’s largest fundraiser and is fun adult night out.


WALKFEST – Hilary Somorjai and Vanessa Lo
This committee coordinates and manages the Walkfest, a fun-filled family event held this year on Sunday, October 10, 2010.  The day begins with a Walkathon fundraiser and ends with a celebration with food, games and entertainment for the entire family.  This not-to-be-missed event is one of the school’s two main fundraisers.


CARING AT CAREY/COMMUNITY SERVICE- Amanda Welsh and Wendy Liau
This committee identifies and manages community service and outreach activities during the school year and provides resources and information to the parent body on family-appropriate service opportunities throughout the broader community.


COMMUNITY EVENTS – Kim Bottoms, Helen Carris, Cathleen Thomas
The coordinators of this committee organize Carey community social activities during the school year.  Past events have included ice skating parties, ski trips, Giants games, park days and outings to Yosemite, Safari West and Montecito.


ENRICHMENT DAYS LIAISONSMarci Riley and Angela Rohde

These coordinators work with the specialist faculty to organize and manage volunteers for enrichment days events and activities held throughout the year including Literature Days, Art Week, Earth Day, Foreign Language and Cultures Days and Pauline Murray Sports Day.


SUPPLIES COORDINATOR - Lisa Pearlman
This person manages the inventory and organization of CSPA resources and supplies and works to ensure adequate supplies are available for committee and parent use at school functions.


ESCRIP – GraceAnn Stewart
This coordinator manages the school’s electronic scrip and internet-based fundraising efforts by recruiting participants, updating the community on rebate opportunities and tracking contributions.  Regular updates are provided to the parent community through CSPA meetings and The Eagle’s Eye.


FACULTY APPRECIATION – Laura Agarwal, Robbie Fang, Sandy Moore
This committee is responsible for coordinating recognition and appreciation events for the faculty, staff and administration. These include birthdays, summer luncheons, holiday parties, staff appreciation week events and faculty awards. This committee also coordinates the Wish List program, providing teachers with funds for individual classroom improvements or special class events.


MENTORING PROGRAM – Betsy Berman, Erin Crocker, Patty Macy
The goal of this program is to integrate new families in the community by providing them with a returning family mentor resource.  The committee organizes adult and family events held in both spring and summer to allow new families the opportunity to get to know other Carey parents.


PARENT EDUCATION – Heidi Cotton
This coordinator facilitates our participation in Common Ground, a consortium of independent schools that sponsors highly regarded parent education evenings featuring prominent speakers in the areas of education, child development and family relations.  Events are held throughout the year and are open to Carey parents free of charge.


PUMPKIN PATCH – Caroline Bowers, Jennifer Nissenberg, Claire Thompson
A much anticipated fall tradition, this committee organizes the annual Halloween pumpkin patch. This fun event is held at school during Halloween week, this year on October 30, 2009.  Children visit the patch with their class, play games and choose a pumpkin to take home.


SPAGHETTI DINNER – Annie Luetkemeyer and Meaghan Schaefer
This committee is responsible for coordinating the annual Spaghetti Dinner, to be held this year at school on Friday, May 13, 2011.  At this casual family event, the CSPA thanks the parent community for its support throughout the year.


VOLUNTEER TRACKING – Fiona Taylor
This coordinator tracks each family’s progress toward meeting its volunteer hours requirement and communicates with the community regarding new volunteer opportunities.
