Officers of The Carey School Parents Association
EXECUTIVE TEAM
The CSPA Executive Committee oversees the CSPA. Comprised of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary, its responsibilities include drafting and managing the CSPA’s annual budget, overseeing the Room Parents and Committee Chairs, facilitating community events, spearheading CSPA fundraisers and allocating funds for school projects voted on by the parent community. The executive committee updates the parent community through the Eagle Eye’s newsletter and CSPA meetings, which are held at least 4 times throughout the school year. The members of the executive committee for the 2010-11 school year are:
DEVON GOLD, President
Devon is excited to be serving a second year as President and to be starting her seventh year as a Carey parent. She has 3 children, one a 6th grader and Carey alum, and the other two in grades 4 and Kindergarten. In her time at Carey, Devon has served as CSPA President, co-chaired both the Annual Auction and Walkfest, served for numerous years as a room parent, coordinated parent involvement for Literature Week and served on the board of trustees Advancement Committee and the leadership teams for both the Annual Fund and Capital Campaign. Devon loves the palpable energy and enthusiasm she feels whenever she’s at school. Whether it’s during a class party, a reading session in the library or a musical performance, the excitement emanating from the children is truly contagious!
KELENE RICHART and IDA GRUBER , Co-Vice Presidents
Kelene is returning for a second year in the VP role, and she and her family have been at the Carey school for seven years. Her older daughter is in 6th grade and a Carey alum, and her younger daughter is in fourth grade. Kelene has been active at Carey as a room parent, decorations and set-up lead for both the Auction and Walkfest and class agent for annual giving. Kelene was also on the Capital Campaign leadership team, chairing the community giving effort and coordinating recognition events. One of the most meaningful Carey traditions for Kelene and her family is the Buddy Program. Both older and younger children treasure their special buddy relationships. Reading together, exchanging valentines and “high-fiving” as they pass each other on the patio, buddies share a special bond that adds to the richness of the Carey experience.
Ida Gruber begins her third of many years to come at the Carey school. She has 3 daughters: one in second grade, one in kindergarten and one waiting in the wings for her Carey debut! In her two years at Carey, Ida has served as Co-Vice President and on the leadership team for the Annual Fund. She continues to be impressed with the talent, expertise and dedication of the Carey faculty and the creative and inspiring way they impart the curriculum to their students.
RENEE YIH, Treasurer
Renee is mom to a 5th grade student and has been active during her 5 years as a Carey parent. Renee has co-chaired Walkfest and has served numerous times as room parent. She has also led several committees for the CSPA’s two biggest fundraisers, Walkfest and the Auction. Renee values so many things about Carey, but credits the knowledgeable and caring faculty and staff, as well as the close-knit parent community, with having contributed the most to her family’s wonderful experience. She is continually amazed by how her daughter has grown, both socially and academically over the years, and she loves it when her daughter tells her, each and every year, that her current homeroom teacher is the “best teacher ever!”
AYESHA MASUD, Secretary
Ayesha returns this year for a second term as CSPA Secretary and is also currently serving as a 5th grade room parent and Annual Fund class agent. In her 5 years as a Carey parent, Ayesha has taken on numerous leadership roles, including co-chairing Walkfest for two years. She has also served as a room parent and on the auction committee. Ayesha’s daughter is in fifth grade and will graduate this year. What Ayesha appreciates most about Carey is that the community of educators, parents and children shares her family’s values: a love of learning, respect and kindness, and social responsibility.
